Printed and bound in Verona, Italy

A sheet with 2 covers every second!
A sheet with 2 covers every second!

Dear Backers,

This past 7 and 8 of July we met with Rafael and the team again in Verona, Italy for the press-pass of the book. We made sure that the color of the cover on press turned out according to specifications. We also checked the paper stock for correct color, weight and texture, as well as the content and other details.

Once approved, the print run was quickly underway. 30,000 covers were printed the morning of the 7th and then began the printing of 1.5 million internal pages! Once we’re finished printing, a whopping total of 15 tons of paper will have gone through the press. This paper is of course, sustainably sourced and FSC Certified :-)

What’s Next

Once we finish printing, the sheets will be sent to the bindery, in Verona as well, and the books will be assembled. On the 29th of July we will collect 33 pallets of books to be sent by road and sea freight to distribution centers in the US, UK and Australia. From these warehouses the books will be individually shipped to you.

Covers were set aside for Rafael to sign.

Signed Prints

As mentioned in Update #13, Rafael signed all of the prints in Madrid a few weeks ago. 23 of 110 prints shipped directly to backers, the rest were sent by Fedex to distribution centers in the US, UK and Australia to be re-packed and forwarded. The certificates of authenticity will arrive separately, as well as the signed books.

Once again, thank you for your support and patience! We will continue to keep you updated on this amazing journey. Thank you all for making it possible.

All the best,

Super Update: The Making of..
almost 8 years ago – Sat, Jun 18, 2016 at 12:05:03 AM

Dear backers,

Since we’ve launched our Kickstarter project in March, we’ve had an incredible journey. As you can imagine, we’ve been working incredibly hard on your rewards and the production of what will be a beautiful coloring book and Rafael’s most important work yet.

For those of you who have been wondering what we have been up to, here’s a little sneak peak into our Kickstarter adventure. We could not have predicted the huge demand for Rafael’s meditative drawings. It came as a marvelous surprise to us, and, with it, there have been many challenges.

And one of these challenges was to answer your many question between just the three of us. We thank you for your patience and trust you understand our need to focus on the task at hand: to produce the best coloring book we possibly can, and to fulfill your rewards as efficiently as we are able.

We initially forecasted the production of 500 copies of the book, and now will be printing 30,000 for the first edition! The decision was made to print at the highest quality printing house in Italy, and work with one of the most reputable designers in Freiburg, Germany, to bring your book to life.

Our journey brought us from Sydney and Venezuela to a pit stop in Switzerland, from where we departed on our manic road trip to our designer in Freiburg. In Freiburg, which has a long history in quality print, we finalized our cover and selected the final drawings and sequence of your book. Our talented partner has added excellent ideas and details to the design, and the final look and feel of the book is stunning in our humble opinion. We can’t wait to get our hands on it!

There, the 5 PDF drawings for the first reward has been created and sent out to our backers. The full PDF is still work in process and will be released after the book has been sent to you, once we have the green light from Rafael’s stern copyright lawyer. Also, we believe that it will be a much better experience for you to see the PDF once you hold your copy of the magnificent coloring book in your hands.

Next stop took us to Italy. At our printing company, we selected your drawing paper that is both high quality and lightweight. We purchased the paper which is being produced as we speak. For 30,000 books, that’s A LOT of paper! Our partners in Italy have confirmed the print schedule and we will print your book mid July. This means that with binding, embossing and all the other details, the book will be finished by end of July. We will confirm with you once the book is completed, and what the freight schedule for each region of the world will look like. We are very close guys! Hold on tight :)

Our final destination was Madrid. Here we’ve reunited with Rafael at his studio where he has received the 100 prints of the Nautilus shell to sign. Rafael hand-signed all of these prints one by one, numbered these from one to one hundred, and these are now on their way to their new owners. Shipping these prints is a tremendous logistics operation, as these go out all over the world. We've had some challenges with the mailing tubes as these were too long and initially rejected by the Spanish post office. Nothing a saw and a bit of elbow grease can't resolve ;)

From Madrid, we are now coordinating the last changes before submitting the final copy of your coloring book to our partners in Germany and Italy, as we prepare to go to print. Logistics is the next big task, which we're lining up at the moment. Everything's coming together nicely, and we're very excited to be so close to bringing Rafael’s fine coloring book into your hands soon. We’ll keep you posted on progress.

Warmest wishes, Andres, Melinda and Rafael
